Done Too Soon

Jesus Christ, Fanny Brice
Wolfie Mozart and Humphrey Bogart
And Genghis Khan
And on to H. G. Wells

Ho Chi Minh, Gunga Din
Henry Luce and John Wilkes Booth
And Alexanders King and Graham Bell

Ramar Krishna, Mama Whistler
Patrice Lumumba and Russ Colombo
Karl and Chico Marx
Albert Camus,

E. A. Poe, Henri Rousseau
Sholom Aleichem and Caryl Chessman
Alan Freed and Buster Keaton too

And each one there
Has one thing shared
They have sweated beneath the same sun
Looked up in wonder at the same moon
And wept when it was all done
For bein' done too soon
For bein' done too soon
For bein' done

1970 Prophet Music, Inc.
Neil Diamond

  1. Ah, Mr. I loved thee
And how I love thee still
Thank you for the words and the music
    Thanks for the memories

    1. I thought I was the only one left who remembered him. :)

    2. While the lyrics are interesting to read, I have a very hard time taking Neil Diamond seriously - Forever in Blue Jeans ??? really ???

Maybe it's because poor Neil is now piped into elevators and dentists' offices everywhere ...

      sorry :)

    3. Before your time is all. A lot of people who seemed hot 40 years ago probably seem silly now. :)

    4. The lyrics are interesting to read? Just a list of names, RDG. Dead people who don't evoke any memories for you either, I'd wager, for the most part. And mostly for me too. No major flashbacks. :)

I AM interested in why you said you were sorry?

  2. Hmmmm .... I suppose I said 'sorry' because I was disagreeing with you, but I didn't want to start a debate.

I tend to worry about hurting people's feelings.

It's an interesting list because it is full of dichotomies: sinners and saints, builders and destroyers, idealists and realists ... then again, maybe the names were picked because of their rhyming abilities and nothing more.
