Your call is important to us...


  1. I have had a number of those calls today, to voices saying 'Your call is important to us, unfortunately all our operators are busy, please hold.'

    One of those was to the U.S embassy in London. They charge a premium rate per minute to play you recorded voices, and numbered menus. I think I just bought you another F-16 this afternoon, and I gave up long before I ever got to a human.

    I wonder if the famous red telephone to the Kremlin has the same nonsense.... If you are calling to report multiple ICBM launches in the Urals, please press 1. If you have questions relating to tank battalions where they shouldn't be, please press 2. If you wish to bribe an official, ....."
